Workshop details
You're invited! These workshops are designed for K-8 formal (school) and non-formal educators (boy scout and girl scout leaders, 4-H, park and rec. staff, nature center staff, YMCA youth programs, Boys and Girls Club, etc.) - anyone who wants to engage youth in their local environment through environmental education, aquatic education and fishing activities.
MinnAqua lessons:
- Get kids outside and connected to their local aquatic habitat
- Introduce kids to the life-long activity of fishing
- Engage students with learning that is student-centered, place-based, interdisciplinary, and relevant
- Are specific to Minnesota fish species, aquatic habitats and ecosystems
- Align with Minnesota Academic Standards for grades 3-5
- Most lessons have K-2 options
- Most lessons are very appropriate for Middle School level (grades 6-8), and High School teachers are effectively using this resource, too
- Align with the Environmental Literacy Scope and Sequence
- Align with Boy Scout badge requirements, Jr. Girl Scout badge requirements and 4-H fishing program requirements
- Are teacher tested and are being enthusiastically used throughout the state
- Are included in the St. Paul Public School District's Science and Academic Framework
- Cover aquatic habitats, Minnesota fish, water stewardship, fish management, fishing equipment, skills and safety
All participants receive:
- MinnAqua Fishing: Get in the Habitat! Leader's Guide CD – with all 39 lessons, and 22 helpful appendices
- MinnAqua Fishing: Get in the Habitat! Leader's Guide 3 ring binder with printed lessons
- All original illustrations electronically accessible on CD
- Certificate for 6 continuing education credits (CEUs)
- Posters and other material
