Maintaining your rain garden – first year
- Water plants every few days for the first few weeks
- During a dry spell water at least once a week
- If is a wet time of year allow for drainage so your new plants don’t down drown or wash out
- Keep weeded
- Avoid using fertilizers
Maintenance – future years
- In the spring, remove dead vegetation and excess leaves
- In the spring, remove trash and sand collected over the winter
- In the spring and during the summer months, remove weeds
- During a dry spell water the equivalent of 1” of water once a week
- Replace dead plants
- Add mulch if needed
