When I look at a rain garden, swale, or shoreline buffer planted in native vegetation I see more than the beautiful blooms.  I see a Monet that operates like sophisticated machinery, quietly purifying our waters, stabilizing our climate, and feeding our air, water, and soil.
This is due in part to my coursework in ecosystems and toxicology at Bemidji State University where I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Studies. I integrate the principals of these subjects into my work. That is, the ultimate goal is to create a cohesive landscape that soaks up runoff and reduces pollutants using natural plant communities.
As a District Technician, I work with the public, nonprofit organizations and government entities on projects that reduce soil loss and protect surface and ground waters through the use of conservation practices.  I have experience in storm water management, erosion and sediment control, as well as habitat restoration and enhancement. See the list below for my areas of expertise:

  • To assist landowners with projects where wetlands are involved, which includes the application process, delineation reviews, assessment, and restoration (Wetland Conservation Act).
  • To connect contractors and owners with resources about requirements of the *MPCA *NPDES CSW permit and inspect projects 1 acre or more in size for compliance with that permit. (US *EPA MPCA Joint Powers agreement).

* MPCA: Minnesota Pollution Control Agency *NPDES CSW: National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Construction Stormwater Permit *EPA: Environmental Protection Agency.

  • To evaluate, document, and authorize dirt-moving projects located within the Shoreland Impact Zone (SIZ) for Crow Wing County.
  • To provide education, technical advice, and assistance for water quality related projects and activities (Crow Wing County Water Plan).
